activities and programs

Jeanne d'Arc emphasizes individual and team activities with lasting value. After preliminary exposure to a variety of activities, campers select those they like best. With the help of the program director, each girl sets goals, learns and develops skills, and achieves her objectives. Generally, younger campers participate in more group activities while older girls pursue a more individualized program.

The Waterfront
The waterfront on fourteen-mile Lake Chateaugay provides an incredible, fresh-water setting for all types of water sports. These include beginner to advanced sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, windsurfing and swimming. All waterfront activities are taught and supervised by certified Red Cross instructors and lifeguards.

Land Activities
Land activities offered include tennis, campcraft, riflery, softball, archery, golf, volleyball, tumbling, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, aerobics, and arts and crafts. Campers are encouraged to try the many sporting opportunities available. In addition, a mountaineering program teaches skills that instill self-reliance in the outdoors. Starting with short day hikes and overnights to nearby campsites, campers advance to more challenging backpacking and canoe trips.

Equestrian Programs
For aspiring equestrians, Jeanne d'Arc also offers a challenging riding program. A Camp Horsemanship Association certified instructor leads the program using only trained saddle horses. Girls receive English saddle instruction in the Olympic sized arena, and progress to trail rides along the peaceful and secluded trails around the lake. Control and form are emphasized, and riders are given the chance to jump and exhibit the skills they have learned at Jeanne d'Arc's annual horse show.

Club Programs
In addition to the regular activities, Jeanne d'Arc's "club" programs provide further opportunity to excel in riding, mountaineering, sailing and canoeing. The "Campcraft Club" is fun for younger girls and teaches outdoor skills, including tree, flower, bird, and wildlife identification, fire building, outdoor cooking, basic orienteering, and weather forecasting. Younger, and older, campers can sometimes be found frog-hunting, puddle jumping or fishing.
